The palaces are immersed in exotic jungles that contain a feast of 60+ exotic plants including

specimen trees such as the giant banana leaf tree, bent palm trees and walking trails leading to the

palaces. The jungles are fully sustainable. We are not using fungicides and pesticides; We are using an

underground irrigation system that disperses desalinated and recycled water. 

The palaces are fully furnished with Bentley Home furniture, even the massage room on the

recreational floor was designed by Bentley Home furniture. 

   Specifically, the design brief for the project was to bring the best of Sweden to Dubai and to go way

beyond just snow and nature. We wanted to create an epic mansion that is both a curated sanctuary

and a sophisticated playground. A fairy tale with a rich cultural background inspired by the land of

the Vikings. Each palace is immersed in a sustainable jungle forest that is home to promenade trails,

immaculate hammocks resting in the shade of the lush canopy and scoop swings hanging from bent

palm trees. Viking cues are found on the glass roof that resemble the inverted hull of a Viking boat

ornated with a dragon head replica, standing proud and tall as it safeguards the mansion. There are

also two large fire fountains with horse figures watching over the infinity swimming pool. 

A sustainable project full of innovation. Once completed, it will deliver a number of

innovations, including seven world firsts. 

The project is a second home and upscale hospitality resort destination comprising of 6 coral reefs rich man

made islands off the shores of Dubai at the World islands, the most sustainable project in the world: a zero

discharge project.                                                                                                                                            Originally, the roofs were designed to be flat to make the mansions seemingly disappear in the

jungle. But one of our customers wanted to have a roof access and a sky majlis, so the design evolved

to include an extra floor for receptions with a glass roof and the sky majlis on the top of the roof.

The new roof design implies the steel structure and the 40+ glass panels of each mansion had to be

custom made for size, color and shipment to Dubai. Feasibility studies to accommodate the 60 tons

weight of the roof on top of the mansions were conducted over 6 months. In total, the new design

added almost 2 years to the construction timelines. 

Sustainability plans and successes year to date 

With sustainability at its core,  IT will deploy sustainable landscaping that will be pesticide

free, fungicide free and will be showered with recycled water. The island is also committed to be totally car

free, use clean energy and will eventually offer sustainable water transportation to the guests 

It is designed with a zero-discharge and zero micro-plastics policy to ensure the

protection of the Arabian Gulf and species of marine life that reside around the six islands. 

Organic food will be served across the destination’s restaurants and cafes and the 24/7 room service

offerings, adding health and wellness to the incredible beauty of the islands.

The island will host magnificent hanging gardens on the façade of the Portofino inspired hotel with an

astonishing 100,000 plants. It will also offer sustainable entertainment with zero emissions and with no

harm to nature such as hologram circus and synchronized swimming shows.
